DPCA Breeder Referrals

Dobermans, like all purebred dogs, are subject to certain genetic health problems. Some of these are: Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM), Cervical Vertebral Instability (CVI, aka Wobblers Disease). Von Willebrands Disease (VWD), Hip Dysplasia, Autoimmune Thyroid deficiency and various eye problems have tests to disclose the conditions. Cardiomyopathy and CVI still do not have tests to warn to the potential for these diseases, however careful pedigree study can indicate possible trends. Responsible breeders can try to reduce the chances of cardio by having a cardiologist echo-cardiogram and Holter monitor their dogs before breeding to assure sire and da do not currently show any sign of cardiova.

For information about current litters, please see the Breeder Referrals section of the DPCA website.
